The birth of Star’s portrait

The Hebrew word Shalom (שָׁלוֹם) means far more than the absence of conflict. It signifies total wholeness, safety, physical health, and prosperity. It represents a state of being where nothing is missing and nothing is broken—a deep, harmonious peace between creation and the Creator.

The spark for this painting arrived in November 2025 when David Fechter, co-owner of Shalom Wildlife Zoo, posted about a rescued black leopard named Star. Artist Michele Wiesen was immediately captivated by the animal's striking beauty, her deep, rumbling purr, her playful energy around David, and her intense, magnetic gaze. In February, David announced a fundraiser to build Star a brand-new enclosure. Michele knew instantly how to help, deciding to capture Star's spirit on canvas to support the cause. The completed painting was donated in April of 2026 to become a permanent piece for the zoo's Gallery and Venue Facility. High-quality prints of this artwork are sold with all proceeds directly funding the animals' needs.
