Ginger – Queen of Shalom

This painting was born out of hope, but it ultimately became a sacred tribute.

The Hebrew word Shalom (שָׁלוֹם) means far more than the absence of conflict. It represents wholeness, safety, health, prosperity, and a deep peace where nothing is missing and nothing is broken.

When Shalom Wildlife Zoo co-owner David Fechter asked Wisconsin artist Michele Wiesen to paint Ginger, the beloved white tiger was ill but appeared to be making a full recovery. As Michele painted, her studio was filled with hope. She believed this artwork would celebrate Ginger's strength, beauty, and remarkable life.

Ginger was much more than a tiger. She was a fiercely devoted mother, a majestic soul, and the iconic face of Shalom Wildlife Zoo. Her impact reached far beyond Wisconsin, touching the hearts of hundreds of thousands of people around the world. Every day, fans eagerly awaited new videos on the Shalom Wildlife Facebook page, finding comfort, joy, and inspiration as they watched her lovingly raise her cubs. She became a symbol of hope, peace, and unconditional maternal love.

With every brushstroke of white and silver, Michele captured Ginger's powerful spirit on canvas.

When the painting was finished, Michele emailed a photo of the completed artwork to David. It was in that very moment that he shared the heartbreaking news—Ginger had just passed away.

Looking back, the timing felt almost impossible to explain. Michele believes that as she placed the final brushstroke on the canvas, Ginger was taking her final peaceful breath. What was intended to celebrate a recovery instead became an everlasting memorial.

Today, this painting stands as a tribute to Ginger's extraordinary life and the legacy she leaves behind. Through Michele's artistry, the Queen of Shalom will forever reign in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
